I had a lovely afternoon photographing Katie, her husband, and her gorgeous bump at her flat in Clapham recently.
We had a fairly dull, grey October afternoon for this session, which meant there wasn't a huge amount of available light indoors. I'm not sure you would know that from the final images though, and that's what is so amazing about photography - having the right lenses for low-light, as well as some strong editing skills is key!
When I arrived Katie was just finishing off getting ready so we chatted a bit about what she wanted to achieve, she showed me her outfit options, and I had a nosy around the flat to find the best spots for our photos. We ended up using the main bedroom, kitchen, living room, and their small courtyard outside, which secured the best light and gave us plenty of variety. Where possible, I positioned Katie close to windows and doors to get that really soft natural light, which is so flattering for portraits.
She was a little unsure about being in front of the camera (a common story with lots of pregnant mums who don't feel particularly glamorous or 'camera-ready'!), so we chatted a lot as I was taking photos and I helped her with her positioning to get the best angles and relaxed, natural poses.
We even managed to convince her husband to reluctantly join for a couple of photos, which I think are really special.
Katie's joy shines through these photos and I hope she will look back and treasure these for years to come!
